NWR: HIV Prevalence More In Females Than In Males.

The North West Regional Delegate of Public Health says, HIV prevalence is more rampant in females than in males. Dr Kingsley Che Soh was speaking at the conference room of the NW Regional Fund For Health Promotion, Friday August 23, 2019 during the launching ceremony of the 17th edition of Holidays Free Of HIV/AIDS with the theme, “Android Generation, Click On HIV Testing”.
On the situation of HIV and AIDS in the North West Region of Cameroon, Dr. Kingsley Che Soh says: “The 2019 Health and Demographic Survey reveals a further drop in HIV prevalence to 4%,[5.8% in females and 1.6% in males]from the 6.3% in 2011 in the age group 15-49years.It is estimated that in 2019,64,201 persons are living with HIV in the North West Region. Our target for treatment of HIV by December 2019 is 38,067.So far by June 2019, we have placed 33,391 persons on antiretroviral therapy down from 36,249 persons on treatment in June 2018.In June 2019,2353 persons living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy failed to pick up their treatment. This can be explained by the displacements of persons”.
In January to June 2019, Dr Kingsley Che Soh Says 176,917 persons were screened for HIV in 19 health districts,2,509 persons tested positive with a percentage of 1.4% and is above 2% in Ndu, Santa, Nwa and Bafut health districts: “Out of the 2,509 persons tested positive for HIV,2114[81%] were placed on treatment,6%short of the target considering the fact that at least 90% of persons tested positive are supposed to be on anti retroviral drugs by 2020. HIV testing is free of charge or at a token of 500FRS, we must make good use of all HIV prevention, testing, and treatment services”. He ended.
Dr Tayong Gladys is the Regional Coordinator of the North West Regional Technical Group For The Fight Against HIV/AIDS. She says, Cameroon and the world really want to eradicate HIV by 2030:“Eradication does not mean that, we will get rid of people living with HIV, we want to stop new infections, while keeping all those who are infected alive. We don’t want any person living with HIV to die that is why we are encouraging all those living with HIV  to take the life saving antiretroviral therapy”.
Representing the NW governor at the event, the Secretary General, Mr.Lanyuy Harry Ngwani  blamed the youth’s failure to abstain from pre-marital sex, having multiple and concurrent sexual partners, inter generational sex, inability to negotiate for safe sex for exacerbating their risk of being infected with the HIV virus. He also said, disengagement from school, poverty, social unrest, unemployment and underemployment increase the risk of youths especially females.
117 Youth Peer Educators were trained in Bamenda and given essential key messages on HIV/ AIDS to disseminate to their communities through interpersonal and mass communication all in a bit to combat HIV/AIDS.

Road Accident Leaves Two Persons Dead Along Bamenda-Bambili Stretch

Chattered Vehicles As A Result Of Accident  By Raymond Dingana Township taxi drivers in Bamenda are still in shock following the death of one of theirs who died alongside his passenger at the Mile 6 neighborhood in Nkwen, on the Bamenda-Bambili road, Friday March 15, 2024. The accident that didn't only take away lives but caused enormous damages on the two vehicles involved has been attributed to over speeding. "The black private car was on top speed when it suddenly found itself on the other said of the road colliding with the taxi. The occupants of the private owned vehicle fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle was coming from the Mile 6 direction while the taxi was heading towards Bamenda, " explained a witness. The passenger whose only name drayinfos got as Tigwe died on the spot, while the driver of the Starlet vehicle died later at the Regional Hospital in Bamenda. Bamenda: Population Protests Killing Of Civilian By Uniform Officer

  Cross Section Of Protesting Crowd At Up Station  By Raymond Dingana The early hours of Thursday April 4,2024 was a tensed one at the Bamenda I council area following the stabbing to death of the young man identified as Junior Awazi popularly known as BJ by a uniform officer in civilian attire. The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday breaking Thursday April 4 in a beer parlor at Up Station, Bamenda I Council area. The population was out in the streets expressing their grievances demanding justice for the slain young man. " It all started when the uniform officer in civilian attire wounded a girl's hand after she rejected his love advances.
