Bafut D.O Bans Check Point, Reminds Officers Of Their Job Description

The Divisional Officer for Bafut Sub Division, Diobe Elumba Didacus Elumba has banned what he describes as an illegal check point mounted infront of his office by the forces of law and order.

He says, the job description of the uniform officers there is limited exclusively to securing the D.O's premises.

According to a Prefectoral decision signed Thursday July 01, 2021, the decision banning the check point was arrived at after a series of complaints from the population notable road users about harrassements, assults and extortion by the forces of law and order taking guard at the sub Divisional Office in Bafut.

The order further states that, neither police nor gendarmerie check point has been created around the visinity of the DO's office.

The uniform officers were also warned against contravening the decision and that, the heavy hands of the law will not spare them.

It should be noted that, it is a normal thing for security officers to pack their vehicles anywhere in Bamenda and start extorting the population especially transporters under the pretex of controling car documents.

Those sent out to ensure that bike riders don't voilate the space carved out for them to operate in Bamenda have transformed themselves to check points.

Even those notably officers assign to provide security to financial institutions have on many occasions resorted to chasing urban transporters around for car documents.

Despite cries from the population, nothing has been done about it.

There are hopes that, the Divisional officers for Bamenda I,II, and III, Bali, Bambili, Santa, Njinikom, Fundong and many others will follow suit and rescue the population from the extortion, harrasement and assult mechinaries planted on the roads in the name of security checkpoints.
