Nigerian Women Decry Kidnappings, Extortion In Bamenda.
By Raymond Dingana The President of the women’s wing of the Nigerian Union in Bamenda, Mrs. Margaret Ovayozo Ituen says, Nigerian women are facing numerous challenges both in the hands of the Cameroon Military and None State Armed Groups: “Sometimes when the man is not, the women are taken in his place and released only after huge sums have been paid. Even when the man is kidnapped by unidentified persons, the women suffer psychologically and emotionally. When women are travelling to or from Nigeria to Bamenda, whether with or without valid documents, they are extorted by soldiers stationed along the Bamenda- Ekok road. All these are happening at a time when businesses are crumbling because people have fled the restive regions; yet, we are being kidnapped and extorted ” . Mrs. Ituen said.
