Peace In Their Steps: Women Walk for Unity, Justice, and Peace In Bamenda

Waka Waka 4 Peace By Anne-Valien Berinyuy  On July 31, 2025, the streets of Up Station in Bamenda came alive with songs, chants, and hope as women from all backgrounds came together for a peace march called “Waka Waka 4 Peace.” The walk started at Mile 1 Junction, Up Station, Bamenda I Municipality and ended at the Governor’s Office. It was organized by the North West Chapter of the National Convention for Peace to celebrate Pan African Women’s Day. This year’s walk marked two important events, the 63rd Pan African Women’s Day and the 4th edition of the National Peace Convention, first held in Yaoundé in 2021. The women carried placards with peaceful messages, sang songs of unity, and reminded everyone about the vital role women play in promoting peace, especially in conflict-affected areas like the North West region. NWR: Edison Fru Ndi Honored As Most Resilient Economic Operator, Dedicates Award To Workers

  Sir Edison Fru Ndi Brandishing His Award By Raymond Dingana Economic operators in the North West Region (NWR) of Cameroon are admired for their resilience during tough times. This spirit gives hope to the people in the region for a better future. One of these resilient operators, Sir Edison Fru Ndi, who runs Dream Land Snack Bar in Nkwen, Bamenda III municipality, and other businesses was recently honored with an award. Prime International Press Award celebrated him as NW Most Resilient Economic Operator on July 17, 2025, in Bamenda. The award recognizes not only Sir Edison's achievements as an economic operator, but also his efforts to reduce poverty by creating jobs and his social responsibility projects, like installing street lights in some communities. Even those who try to include PWDs often lack the resources to make their activities truly inclusive. During the June 2025 Ordinary Session of the North West Regional Assembly (NWRA), held with the theme: 2025 Budget Orientation Debate, Update of First Semester 2025,the President of the NWRA, Hon. Fru Angwafo III, stated that embracing inclusivity to help PWDs is essential and should not be argued. "We always make inclusivity our main policy. The ministries of education and health in our social program usually have provisions for persons with disabilities. This is a permanent commitment, and we should not need to debate it. Many areas now feel empty because traditional authorities are not present, causing villagers to move away to escape the crisis. Reports often focus on gun battles, deaths, and human rights violations. However, little attention is given to the positive developments happening in the North West Region (NWR) despite the ongoing conflict.   During a panel discussion at the North West Economic Forum on July 12, Vivian Kukah, a panelist emphasized the need for positive communication for the NWR. She pointed out that while the struggles are visible, there is also resilience and growth happening in communities. The aim of these visits is to secure development visit for the Bamenda II Municipality.  Through his visits, discussions and cooperation in Canada, Mayor Peter Chenwi is optimistic about securing funding for the financing of a Waste Management Plant project within Bamenda II Municipality. The facility will be responsible for treating and transformation of both organic and inorganic waste into useful by-products like electricity, fuels and fertilizer, amongst other key products that will benefit the population of Bamenda II Municipality and Cameroon in general. If it's not the sorry state of roads that appears to be more of death traps filled with dust during the dry season and thick mud when it rains, then it is the alarming reports of gunmen attacking leisure spots and shooting people.  Breaking Monday morning, heavy gunfire was heard around Mile 2 Nkwen at about 3 AM. It was later revealed that gunmen had attacked a popular drinking spot around New Road junction in the Bamenda III municipality. Reports from multiple sources indicate that two people were killed, while others sustained bullet wounds and are currently receiving treatment in a health facility in Bamenda. Later that same day, at least four bodies were discovered near the Ntahseng bridge in Nkwen, one of which was a lady. These bodies were found shortly after gunshots were reported in the area.
