Mayor Peter Chenwi of the Bamenda II Council has been on a back to back visit to Toronto Canada where he has been in talks with development stakeholders both Cameroonians, and foreigners. The aim of these visits is to secure development visit for the Bamenda II Municipality.
Through his visits, discussions and cooperation in Canada, Mayor Peter Chenwi is optimistic about securing funding for the financing of a Waste Management Plant project within Bamenda II Municipality. The facility will be responsible for treating and transformation of both organic and inorganic waste into useful by-products like electricity, fuels and fertilizer, amongst other key products that will benefit the population of Bamenda II Municipality and Cameroon in general.
The initiative is expected to create between 10.000 to 15.000 new job opportunities, better waste management, environmental protection, reduction in juvenile delinquency, among others.
After a groundbreaking visit to Toronto in August 2024, during which he laid the groundwork for the establishment of a Partnership Cooperation between Bamenda II Council and the City Council of Brampton in Ontario Province, Canada; followed by another visit to Canada in November 2024 geared towards the creation of the first ever African Business Center (ABC) in Toronto, Mayor Peter CHENWI of Bamenda II Council was in Canada again ending June 2025, this time around upon his invitation as Guest Speaker at the Canada-Africa Business Summit, connecting Business Influencers & Thought Leaders, that held from July 2nd to 4th, 2025 at the Pearson Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Mounting the rostrum during the Business Summit, Mayor Peter CHENWI, who was 1 of the only 2 Guest Speakers at the Summit coming from Africa, highlighted the strategic role Bamenda II Council in particular and Cameroon in general could play in the on-going Canada-Africa Business Development initiatives being established in Canada. Projecting Cameroon's image as "Africa in Miniature", he outlined some of Cameroon's potentials in the areas of Agriculture, Energy, Minerals, among others
On the sidelines of his mission, Mayor Peter CHENWI took some time off to commune with Cameroonians in Toronto, like Mr. Emmanuel Ntoko of Aurora, who has been supporting some Bamenda II Council Projects, as well as paving the way for the Council to start cooperation with some major City Councils in Ontario, Canada.
