Living in Bamenda demands extraordinary courage. If it's not the sorry state of roads that appears to be more of death traps filled with dust during the dry season and thick mud when it rains, then it is the alarming reports of gunmen attacking leisure spots and shooting people.

Breaking Monday morning, heavy gunfire was heard around Mile 2 Nkwen at about 3 AM. It was later revealed that gunmen had attacked a popular drinking spot around New Road junction in the Bamenda III municipality.

Reports from multiple sources indicate that two people were killed, while others sustained bullet wounds and are currently receiving treatment in a health facility in Bamenda.

Later that same day, at least four bodies were discovered near the Ntahseng bridge in Nkwen, one of which was a lady. These bodies were found shortly after gunshots were reported in the area. Another body was located in Ntankah, in  Mankon, of Bamenda II Municipality.

It's not clear if the gunshots were as a result of a gun battle or battles between government forces and none state arm groups.

The persistent attacks on nightlife have led many to urge individuals to avoid late night outings, as the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous. The past few months have been particularly deadly, especially in Bamenda III, where beer parlors have faced the brunt of the violence.

These incidents have been attributed to the ongoing Anglophone crisis, which shows no signs of resolution despite efforts to quell the violence. Unfortunately, those dying  are not likely to benefit from the initiatives under the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

Analysts suggest that while reconstruction and development efforts continue, the ongoing killings and destruction raise critical questions about who these initiatives are truly targeting.

As the Anglophone armed conflict rages on, lives continue to be shattered, fueling ongoing calls for an end to the crisis.
