NW Economic Forum: Prof. Fru Angwafo III Champions Local Business Empowerment For Region's Growth

The North West Region(NWR) of Cameroon has faced severe challenges ever since the Anglophone crisis morphed into an armed conflict. This has led to instability, economic decline, and displacement. However, recent efforts toward peace and reconstruction present a chance to rebuild the region with the coming of the North West Economic Forum.

At the opening ceremony of the Economic Forum held at the North West Regional Assembly (NWRA), Prof. Fru Angwafo III emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses.

He explained that the Economic Forum aims to boost growth by building skills, providing support, mentoring, and helping startups in key development areas.

Prof. Angwafo III believes that encouraging local businesses and entrepreneurs will lead to sustainable development in the region.

He pointed out that while some sectors, like textiles, show potential, they are underfunded and need investment to grow.

He also mentioned the untapped potential of cultural industries, urging investors to understand that:

"artifacts and arts need culturally aware entrepreneurs who can turn heritage into economic power."

During the forum, there was lively discussion about the Toghu traditional clothing of the North West Region, with suggestions on how to rebrand it to empower those in the industry and generate more income.


 North West Development and Investment Fund (NOWEDIF) To Be Launched

To boost economic progress, regional leaders and stakeholders are set to officially launched the North West Development and Investment Fund (NOWEDIF) on Sunday July 13,2025.


Prof. Angwafo III explained that this initiative aims to Spark economic development, Create jobs, Build management skills and support startups by empowering visionary individuals from the North West Region, especially those who have succeeded abroad and want to give back.

NOWEDIF focuses on four main actions names; Expanding local finance through loans, Developing strong supply chains in agriculture, Reviewing the cocoa sector, Creating jobs through a "cash for work" program, among others.

The NWRA President encouraged practical solutions to achieve the forum's goals, aiming for self-reliance and long-term prosperity. He hopes that a shared sense of ownership will unite the people of the North West in achieving new economic heights.

The North West Economic Forum marks the start of an exciting journey. For the first time, the region came together with a clear plan to shape its economic future. 

With strong leadership, dedicated entrepreneurs, and a focus on people-centered development, Fru Angwafo said the NWR is ready to embark on a new chapter of innovation, investment, and inclusive growth.

Everyone is now looking forward to action, results, and a future where the NWR becomes a model of resilience and prosperity.


It should be recalled that the first ever North West Economic Forum is holding with the theme: theme: "From Resilience to Renaissance: Strategies for the Economic Transformation of the North-West Region," this Forum is designed as a multi-stakeholder convening to drive a structured, strategic economic revival of the region.
