Armed Men Attack Buses, Assault Drivers and Passengers, Rape Minor In Tubah

One Of The Destroyed Vehicles

Sunday, September 29, 2025, was a terrible day for some mini buses traveling from Bui Division to Bamenda. They were stopped at a place called 'Door Market, a neighborhood in Bambili, Tubah Sub Division, North West Region of Cameroon.

A 10-year-old girl was raped, and both passengers and drivers were assaulted. Their vehicles were damaged, and phones, money, and other valuables were taken.

Victims reported that the attackers were heavily armed and had been ambushing people without any response from security forces.

"We have been suffering on that road for the past two months. The attackers stop vehicles and drag passengers into the bushes, where women are raped, and valuables are stolen,"

said a driver in a video circulating on social media.

He added that

"We don’t understand why we are being treated this way. Security only seems to be present in Bambili; they never come to help at Door Market."
He mentioned that they have had many meetings with security forces about how to protect transporters and passengers, but nothing has changed, and the situation gets worse every day.

Despite the numerous security checkpoints in Tubah, people feel less safe. Many criticize the uniformed officers for being more focused on money than on protecting the community.

Traveling from Bamenda to Bambili and Bambili, all in Tubah Sub Division, there are about 10-12 security checkpoints along the less than 15 km stretch. However, there was no security present near Door Market, where the attacks regularly occur.

Transporters in Tubah feel that instead of providing safety, the forces are only concerned with collecting money from them, while the Tubah administration does nothing to help.

Many now fear using that road, worried they might be the next victims.

Tubah used to be one of the boiling spots in the context of the Anglophone crisis. Observers say the area now enjoys relative peace thanks to the presence of security forces.

However, the population expects more from them as it's their duty to ensure they sleep with both eyes close, but a school of thought suggest that, the situation on the ground is different as insecurity seems to be on the rise in the area.
