The presence of these rotten poles is not only a danger to the population, but also to workers of the electricity company who from time to time climb them to carry out work. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, an electrician died after a tragic accident in the Messassi neighbourhood of Yaounde. The victim was on an electric pole carrying out some work when the rotten pole collapsed, sending him crashing to the ground. He died on the spot.
