2019 World Teachers Day: “Like Peter Who Denied Christ, Some Teachers Have Denied Being Teachers” - NW MINSEC Boos.

By Raymond Dingana in Bamenda.
The North West Regional Delegate for Secondary Education, Mr. Ngwang Roland Yuven says, insecurity has caused some teachers to start behaving like the Biblical Peter who denied Jesus Christ. While addressing those who turned out to celebrate the 26th edition of World Teachers Day, Saturday October 05th, 2019 at the esplanade of the Regional Delegation of Secondary Education, Mr. Ngwang Roland Yuven said, some teachers have denied being teachers just like Simon Peter denied Christ in the Bible.
Celebrated with the theme: “Young Teachers, The Future of The Teaching Profession, the day was celebrated at a time teachers in the region are faced with a lot of challenges especially in the area of security. He said despite the fact that the academic year is still very young, some teachers, schools and school children have been attacked pointing out the case of a form two student who has already spent two weeks with his kidnappers calling on the teachers not to allow insecurity to cause them lose hope in their profession.
Quizzed on whether the just ended dialogue will serve as a catalyst for teachers to start accepting without fear the fact that they are teachers, the regional delegate was positive: “Teachers should be the foremost group that should champion the message of hope. We expect teachers to raise the spirit of hope, not only within themselves but with all other persons who touch them, so I have that trust”.
Among those who answered present at the celebrations was the Inspector General at The Governor’s office, Mr. Ngome Kome. He sent words of appreciation to teachers in the region for heir resilience: “We all have seen the heavy price teachers in the NWR have paid in the course of this crisis, yet, there has been no blank academic year in the NWR. I also want to thank parents and stake holders”.
The event that also had the SDO for Mezam, Mr. Songa Pierre Rene in attendance with the conspicuous absence of Teachers' Trade Unions, also saw the decoration of thirty five teachers from five out of the seven divisions of the NWR excluding Donga Mantung and Menchum Divisions with the Knight of Academic Order.
