The dust raised by the decision of members of North West House of Chiefs to cleanse the land has refused to settle perhaps for the time being.

During the opening of the 9th Ordinary Session of the North West Regional Assembly  (NWRA),12 December 2022 in Bamenda, the President, Fru Fobuzshi ANGWAFO III was able to prevent things from getting out of hand when issues surrounding the traditional cleansing exercise of the region came up again.

Things almost went out of hand after the minutes of the 8
th session of the Assembly were read to the hearing of all with the items needed for the cleansing exercise very much present on page four of the document.

As the items were being read from the minutes, some Honorable Members of the house could be heard murmuring as if to say they were not happy with the announced cleansing exercise.

After the minutes have been digested, the Traditional head of Guzang, Fon Mba Yamsig who is also a member of the house of Chiefs frowned at the Regional Councilors;

Politicians are trying to play with us,

 he said before continuing that,

We stand for peace; it was too hasty to think about cleansing. It is better to first of all win back the people rather than carrying out cleansing today and the next minute we see bloodshed. There was negative reaction from the population against us, he intimated.

Another member of the House of Chiefs took the microphone and said,

There is nothing bad with the cleansing of the region and there are many ways to win back peace. Cleansing is about prayers, meditation amongst others. The deliberations have been done and should be respected.

Sensing that the issue surrounding the traditional cleansing exercise for the regiond was almost dividing traditional authorities,  the President of the NWRA, Fru Fobuzshi ANGWAFO III stepped in and on a bid to trigger an atmosphere of serenity to reign told them that,

The issue should go back to the house of chiefs. We want a consensus. We are not interested in whether this number of persons voted for or against the deliberations. We want a compromise.

The intervention of President Fru ANGWAFO III was able to calm down the storm that has gathered as a result of the decision by some traditional rulers of the region to carry out a cleansing exercise as a peace building mechanism.
