At NWRA 11th Ordinary Session, President Decries Massive Capital Flight, Encourages Local Investment

President, NWRA  At Midterm Ordinary Session Of The Institution

By Raymond Dingana

Ever since the Anglophone Crisis degenerated in to a deadly arm conflict in the years  2017/2018, businesses have received a massive blow as a result of insecurity which has pushed many away from the North West Region (NWR).

Many have migrated to other regions of Cameroon where they have set up businesses and started life anew all to the impairment of the NWR which is in dire need of the human resources and the revenue generated by the business sector which are now being enjoyed by other areas.

In order to arrest the situation, the President of the North West Regional Assembly (NWRA), Prof. Fru Fobuzshi  Angwafo III has called on business persons who have fled the crisis hit region to turn their eyes back home.

Members Of The NWRA In Session

He made the outing on day one of the 11th Ordinary Session of the Assembly dedicated to the Budget Orientation of the institution, Wednesday July 12,2023 in Bamenda when he also encouraged the population to stay within the confines of peace and development.

Apart from the security challenge, we notice capital flight from the region when huge sums of money exit the region with emigration. As we lobby and seek increase in funding to the region, regrettably we carry currency, valuable capital and investments out of the region. The North West Region is our Region. No one else will build it for us. Let us all in the spirit of our proverbial Slogan U Na Mi, Mi Na U, Wi bi Wi, work together for the peace, social cohesion and unity of our beloved Region,

said Prof.Fru Angwafo.

He furthered that such can only be achieved if and only if inhabitants become one another’s keeper, sending resources to the rural and urban vulnerable poor as with the PDI HILA projects.

Many who fled the region say they can only return when they are sure their lives and businesses would be safe though some have been coming back for reasons best known to them.

Very much aware that peace is a pathway to development, Prof. Fru Angwafo III said:

We need total peace for development to follow. Sure Peace and Normalcy is steadily returning to the Region, but it is obvious that there is need for unanimity in order for the entire Region to gain its full serenity. That is to say, at a time when the bells of pacification are increasingly chiming, the Regional Assembly can only urge everybody to remain within the confines of Peace and Development.

                                  Midterm Achievements Of The NWRA

Despite the difficulties faced, the North West Regional Assembly has scored some goals.

The construction projects of the Regional Headquarters and Guest House, two emergency medical centers,  a handicap (rehabilitation) center, two mortuaries in Nwa and Oku, and a vocational training center  as well rehabilitation and renovation works on palaces, destroyed health and school buildings and many other ongoing projects of the Regional Assembly, just to name but these are some of the achievements of the NWRA as stated by Pro. Fru Angwafo III.

These projects are transforming the Region into a great construction site (“Grand Chantier”),Prof. Fru Angwafo III.

He stated that following the core value of equity and Region wide perspective of spatial distribution of resources, every Division is benefitting from ongoing or completed works.

calls for a permanent solution to end the crisis has not ceased to flow from different parts of the region and from people of all walks of life including the clergy and the civil society with some members of opposition political parties like the Social Democratic Front, SDF not left out.

They have on many occasions declared their unflinching support for a genuine dialogue as a way out of the present quagmire ravaging lives in the two Anglophone Regions of Cameroon.
