Poultry Farming: YAD Group Fortifies Vulnerable Youths Through Training, Start Up Packages

The Youths, Agriculture and Development (YAD Group) has trained some vulnerable youths in Bamenda, headquarters of the crisis- battered North West Region of Cameroon on poultry farming as a way to combate food insecurity.

The three-week capacity enhancement that ended on 1st November, 2023 was organized within the framework of the YAD Group's program on strengthening livelihoods and economic capacities of youths, vulnerable households and communities affected by crisis in the North West Region.

During the three-week training that held at the YAD Group demonstration site Big Mankon Bamenda, each participant was blessed with a support package made up of 25 three-week old chicks, a drinker, a feeder and 25kg of fowl feed thanks to YAD Group.

Experts also instill the knowledge of  modules on budgeting and market survey, preparation of brooder, administration of vaccines, monitoring of chicks, feeding of chicks, diagnosis and treatment of common ailments and networking on the trainees.

According to the promoter of the initiative Yombo Epanty Mofor, this is a Pilot phase and YAD Group hopes to mobilize more resources to continue this action as a way to guarantee food security. 

Formed in 2009, YAD Group is a grassroots organization that works side-by-side its members and communities, strengthening them to realize their potentials through livelihoods enhancement, economic and entrepreneurship promotion in farm and non-farm initiatives, promotion of sustainable and humane Communities.

The training exercise came at a time when many households have not been able to consume poultry products due to their expensive nature in the market.

YAD group is hoping to contribute its own little quarter to fix the situation by training as many young persons as possible in the domain of poultry raising.

Road Accident Leaves Two Persons Dead Along Bamenda-Bambili Stretch

Chattered Vehicles As A Result Of Accident  By Raymond Dingana Township taxi drivers in Bamenda are still in shock following the death of one of theirs who died alongside his passenger at the Mile 6 neighborhood in Nkwen, on the Bamenda-Bambili road, Friday March 15, 2024. The accident that didn't only take away lives but caused enormous damages on the two vehicles involved has been attributed to over speeding. "The black private car was on top speed when it suddenly found itself on the other said of the road colliding with the taxi. The occupants of the private owned vehicle fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle was coming from the Mile 6 direction while the taxi was heading towards Bamenda, " explained a witness. The passenger whose only name drayinfos got as Tigwe died on the spot, while the driver of the Starlet vehicle died later at the Regional Hospital in Bamenda.   Cross Section Of Protesting Crowd At Up Station  By Raymond Dingana The early hours of Thursday April 4,2024 was a tensed one at the Bamenda I council area following the stabbing to death of the young man identified as Junior Awazi popularly known as BJ by a uniform officer in civilian attire. The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday breaking Thursday April 4 in a beer parlor at Up Station, Bamenda I Council area. The population was out in the streets expressing their grievances demanding justice for the slain young man. " It all started when the uniform officer in civilian attire wounded a girl's hand after she rejected his love advances.
