Nkumu Fed Fed, European Union Offer Start-up Kits To GBV Survivors At Graduation Ceremony

Nkumu Fed Fed Members With Graduands During Graduation Ceremony In Bali

By Raymond Dingana

Nkumu Fed Fed under the European Union funded project baptised Stop Violence Now Against Women and Girls has graduated 49 Gender Based Violence (GBV) survivors in Bali Nyonga, North West Region of Cameroon.

The survivors from both sexes were fortified with start-up kits to enable them open their own businesses and continue empowering not only themselves but others economically.

The graduation and certificate award ceremony that took place last Wednesday December 13,2023 at the Gwan Multipurpose Center in Bali Nyonga came after months of intense training on different income generating activities.

Among the graduands were those trained as hair dressers, seamstresses, mechanic, just to name but these.

As explained by Nyonglema Sandra, one of the survivors turned business owner thanks to Nkumu Fed Fed and partner, European Union, she will not be selfish with the skills she acquired from Nkumu Fed Fed Skill Center.

" After undergoing months of training on hair dressing, and how to manage my own business, I received a dryer, Babilis machine and many others from Nkumu Fed Fed. Today is the greatest day of my life because after receiving my certificate, I am ready to open my own shop and also give free trainings to others. I am very grateful for Nkumu Fed Fed and the European Union,"

said Sarah.

Another beneciary in the person of Sandra Mbongeh who graduated as a seamstress also promised to help her fellow youths gain skills in seamstressing.

" I received a sowing machine, pressing iron, and other items to start up my own business. There are many young persons who love this trade but don't have the means to acquire the skills. I will give them free trainings so that they too can be empowered economically."

According to the President General of Nkumu Fed Fed, Eunice Tita Tata, the graduation ceremony took place in two places.

" We did the first set in Bamenda and we are now in Bali with the second set. We didn't want beneficiaries from Bali and other neighboring communities to go through the huddles of carrying items from Bamenda down to Bali, Pinyin, and others, so they all came here to collect."

She also indicated that males also benefited because GBV is not only perpetrated on women and girls and that boys also suffer.

She also advised victims of GBV to mind where they report their cases because there are a lot of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) who are rather using their plight to enrich themselves.

" If you are a needy person, find out who are the right people to help. We have NGOs that sing songs , yet we don't see any action. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone. Nkumu Fed Fed is one of those NGOs  for the past 27 years still standing tall in the area of the fight against trafficking in persons, GBV and others. We better the lives of disadvantaged persons in the society, we are training mother's to take care of themselves and their families, and the list is long."

She also prayed that support should continue pouring in from donors so that they can continue empowering survivors of GBV and other vulnerable persons.

The High Table Made Up Of Dignitaries

The Nkumu Fed Fed and European Union bond brought smiles to the faces of over 300 beneficiaries for two years.

Among those who witnessed the event was the Divisional Officer for Bali. There were some notables from the Palace, officials from the Bali council, Nkumu Fed Fed members from Texas USA, just to name but these.

Cross Section Of Population

Worth noting is the fact that Nkumu Fed Fed is a network of sister associations that saw the light of day in 1996 with head quarters in Bali. It focuses on GBV related cases and help survivors get back to their feet.

The NGO currently has 14 branches around the world with the latest being the Mamfe branch.
