Prime Minister, and head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute has launched the Islamic Development Bank  Project in support of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development (IsDB-PPRD) of the North West and South West NW/SW Regions of Cameroon.

The PPRD is the implementation of a major recommendation of the Major National Dialogue aim at making life better for the population of the two restive regions of the country who have undergone enormous hardship for the past seven years and counting.

During the launch of the project, Tuesday December 18,2023, Chief Dr Dion Ngute who is the overall supervisor of the program initiated by President Paul Biya said, the PPRD now enjoying the support of the IsDB means a lot for the population.

"By authorising the minister of the Economy to sign the said convention and by ratifying the said agreement with the IsDB, President Paul Biya has once again demonstrates his desire to rebuild the North West and South West Regions,"
said Dion Ngute.

He further explained that the over FCFA 21 billion from IsDB will go a long way to aid in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of essential infrastructure, strengthening of social cohesion, and the revitalization of the local economy in the NW/SW regions.

"At a time when needs continue to increase, this massive support from IsDB will make it possible to improve the access of citizens in these regions to basic social services, promote the empowerment of vulnerable populations through income generating activities and fostering collaboration and living together,"

explained the PM, who equally thanked the financial partner for contributing hugely for the return of peace and tranquility in the restive regions.

Dion Ngute also empathized on what he says is the reality of the PPRD.

"Amongst the most notable achievements are reconstruction of dozen of schools, health centers, and community centers. The supply of equipments and material to thousands of farmers, breeders and fishermen. The establishment of hundreds of official documents as well as the organization of social cultural activities."

He saluted the effort of the implementing partner of the PPRD, the United Nations Development Program UNDP.

Also present at the launch was the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey who said among others that financial support from IsDB will help in the growth of the restive regions.

He added that the financial aid from IsDB will also contribute to Cameroon's Vision 3035.

Since April 2021, the PPRD has been active in the crisis affected regions thereby indicating that development can still go on in times of crisis.

However, there are those who still believe that for the PPRD to attain it's much needed result, efforts must be redoubled for the seven-year old armed conflict to be laid to it's final resting place with the military option off the table.
