Mr. Fru Jonathan described by the population of Santa as the father of the Santa System Development Cooperative Society, SASDECOS has said 2024 is pregnant with agricultural projects that would change the lives of the population of Santa and beyond.

SASDECOS, birthed a year ago is a Cooperative created to improve on the lives of farmers by alleviating the difficulties they face day by day in producing crops, transporting and marketing them, Fru Jonathan told reporters in Santa, Saturday January 19,2024 during the Annual General Meeting AGM of the SASDECOS. 

He said the cooperative may bear the name Santa but membership is not only Santa reason why there are members from other sub divisions and regions.


Development Stakeholders In The NWR At SASDECOS AGM


Among the projects to be executed this year, Fru Johnathan said:

"We intend to construct a warehouse, and a feed production plant, thanks to the piece of land we secured from the Fon of Mbei. We are looking forward to build a poultry farm which will double what we had last year, a piggery farm with 100 piglets for a start. We also have plans to escalate the production of cassava, soya beans, Irish potatoes, and wheat,"
said Fru Johnathan.

To succeed, he called on the population of Santa to mobilize resources, be they parcels of land, tractors, poultry,and piggery farms, among others.

He said the cooperative will also aid farmers market their produce at reasonable prices, and transform some if possible.

Fru Johnathan Calls For Development Oriented Politics

One of the high points of the day was the call for the population of Santa to shun destructive politics and embrace development oriented politics.

" We discovered that toomuch attention is paid to politics which instead of being a development tool is rather a handicap to our development. We spend quality time fighting each other which is a minus to our development," 

explained Fru Johnathan.

He called on all those displaced as a result of the Anglophone crisis to return home and join others to reap the fruits of SASDECOS 

SASDECOS Achievements, One Year After Creation

Created one year ago, SASDECOS has achieved a lot as stated by the president of the steering committee, Jean M.Afesi Mbafor.

" we had the first, second and third phaces of the poultry farm project, and we have close to 5000 birds, we have helped members in good and bad times, we have also mobilized our sub division and preach peace to all and sundry through sporting activities, the back to school 2022/2023 donations, we gifted 100 bags of manure and 50 bags of fertilizer, sprayers and others.

Also present at the AGM was the president of the North West Regional Assembly NWRA, Fru Angwafo III who promised famers that with the coming of the North West Development and Investment Fund NOWEDIF, farmers will experience a rapid transformation of their lives.

"Most banking institutions today are commercial with high interest rates,as high as 18% and more annually. With development financing, we need low interest rates and this is the prove of concept of the NOWEDIF."

Other agricultural stake holders who threw their weight behind SASDECOS are the North West Development Authority known in it's French acronym as MIDENO, CIDENO, UNVDA, North West Chamber of Agriculture amongst others.



They all promised to make available resources ranging from farm inputs to markets for agricultural produce so that farmers can sell at suitable prizes.
