Bamenda: Gendarmes Capture Suspected Kidnapper Following Exchange Fire

On  Wednesday February 14th, 2024, Gendarmerie Officials  in Mile 4 Nkwen, Bamenda III Sub Division, North West Region of Cameroon captured at least one suspected kidnapper at Mbessi, a quarter in Mile 4, Bamenda III Sub Division, North West Region of Cameroon.

He was among a group of armed men who who abducted a lady around the Mile 5 neighborhood in Nkwen and were taking her to Nforya Bafut when they were intercepted by security officers.

Unfortunately for them, security officers got wind of the situation, and swung in to action. Sources on the ground indicate that the soldiers came face to face with the suspects at Mbessi, and after an exchange of gunfire, one suspect was captured, a source told drayinfos.com

It's not clear if injuries or casualties were record on both sides or not.

An eye witness who only wanted to be known as Numfor said:

" We only heard gunshots and later on we heard the boys kidnapped a lady at Mile 5 Nkwen and were taking her to towards Nforya in Bafut when Gendarmes intercepted the vehicle. They was an exchange of gunfire for a while before the boy was caught while the others ran away."

The also gathered that the lady was returning from an event around mile 6 when she fell in to the hands of the gunmen.

The suspect along side the victim were conveyed to the Mile 4 Gendarmerie Post. We have not had any additional information on the whereabout of the victim.

Sources yet to be confirmed say the suspect has been moved to another location as investigations continue.

There has been no official statement from the officials of Bamenda III Sub Division.

Kidnapping for ransom has been recurrent especially in Nkwen that was hitherto considered a green zone especially in the context of the Anglophone Crisis.

About a week ago, heavily armed men stormed mile 2 junction in Nkwen and took close to five persons away. It's not if they have been released or not.

Many victims have ended up buying their freedoms which huge sums of money as ransom.
