The Diocese of Buea has recognized Okie Johnson, the National President of the Catholic Men's Fellowship (CMA), for his significant contributions to its growth.
Archbishop Jose Avelino Bettencourt, the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, presented the award to Okie on May 7, 2025, following a special Mass that concluded the Diocese's 75th anniversary celebrations.
The announcement was met with loud applause from the congregation at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral.
While presenting the award, Archbishop Bettencourt praised Okie, saying,
“His dedication shows true Christian service.”
The packed cathedral celebrated Okie’s leadership and his impact on the Diocese.
Key Achievements of Okie Johnson At Buea Diocese
Under Okie’s leadership, the CMA has grown significantly across Cameroon, especially in the Buea Diocese. He oversaw the completion of the CMA National Secretariat in Buea, a modern three-story building that serves as the headquarters and a unifying symbol for Catholic men nationwide.

Okie’s contributions go beyond just buildings. He initiated fundraising efforts to create scholarship programs for seminarians and disadvantaged youth, and he organized regular medical outreach programs for rural parishes.
His leadership has also led to a remarkable increase in membership, with CMA chapters now active in every parish in the Buea Diocese.
Notably, Okie transformed the CMA from a simple Sunday gathering into a powerful force for community development and evangelization.
