Doubts About Bamenda Urban Crossing Road Project After PM Dion Ngute's Foundation Stone Ceremony

Many people in Bamenda, Chief Town town in the North West Region (NWR) of Cameroon, are skeptical about the 30 meters wide 6.2km Bamenda Urban Crossing Road Project whose foundation stone was laid in Bamenda on Wednesday September 18th,2025.

They believe that until the roads are actually paved, the project is just a promise that may not happen. This concern was voiced during President Paul Biya's special envoy, Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, who launched several development projects on Wednesday, September 18th in Bamenda.

Residents of Bamenda have a long history of unfulfilled promises from politicians, especially during election times. This has made them doubt any commitments made during such events.

For almost ten years, Bamenda's roads have cried for mercy . There are potholes everywhere, and during the rainy season, the roads become muddy, while dust fills the air during the dry season.

Many promises have been made to fix the roads, but people have noticed that these promises often go unfulfilled. One resident who voted for anonymity expressed his frustration, saying,

 "We want to see the roads before we believe them. This is not the first time such promises have been made. If all the promises were kept, we wouldn't be talking about these bad roads; we'd be discussing bigger projects. Let's wait and see."

Another resident shared similar doubts about PM Dion Ngute's visit, saying,

 "We all heard what he said, but now we are waiting to see if it will actually happen."

Assuring the population, PM Dion Ngute reminded everyone that other projects, like the Babaju-Bamenda road, took time but were eventually completed. He emphasized that the new roads which will cost about 26 billion FCFA  aims to improve the lives of the people.

Encouragement for Community Involvement

To ensure the project runs smoothly, PM Dion Ngute urged the community to see into it that the project is executed, and to keep the roads in good condition. He added that development should not harm anyone.

"We don't want anyone to be hurt during this work. Development is meant to improve lives, not to cause harm."

He also called on those who are hesitant to join the peace efforts so that the region can recover and regain its position as one of the fastest-growing regions in Cameroon.

Everyone is now watching the project sites to see if construction will actually begin. Many are hoping that PM Dion Ngute's visit was not just a way to make political promises that will never be fulfilled, a contribution to the growth of the region.

PM Dion Ngute's visit to Bamenda also saw him inaugurated the Bamenda-Babadjou road linking the North West, and West Region, the Mile 4 bridge, among others.
