As the presidential election on Sunday, October 12, 2025, approaches, political parties are working hard to attract voters despite security threats from armed groups opposed to elections.

One such political party is the Social Democratic Front (SDF), whose supporters have faced threats from armed groups opposed to elections in Anglophone Cameroon.

Understanding the importance of voter turnout and the risks posed by armed groups, the SDF, through its North West Regional Chairman, Fongu Cletus Tanwie, who is also the Mayor of Bamenda III, called on everyone to help oust Biya from power.

He made this appeal on Saturday, September 20th, 2025 during the party's regional conference in Bamenda. He emphasized that voting in favor of the SDF against the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement CPDM should be the focus.

"We understand the security threats aimed at discouraging voter turnout on October 12. We are talking about a president who has been in power for 43 years, and we don’t believe anyone in the region will accept another seven years of the same regime that has harmed our region,"

 said Fongu Cletus.

He encouraged voters, even those skeptical about the election, to do what they can to ensure the population can make their choices and not stand in their as it would be a disservice to the population.

"We want voters to come out and vote for our presidential candidate, Honorable Osih Joshua. As far as the Northwest is concerned, the SDF is the best party to address the Anglophone crisis,"
 Fongu added.

SDF Announces Campaign Launch at Party's Birthplace

To strengthen their activities ahead of the presidential election, the SDF announced that their candidate, Hon. Josua Osih, will launch the party's presidential campaigns at the Commercial Avenue Grandstand in Bamenda.

Fongu Cletus Tanwie explained the choice of Bamenda:

"We chose Bamenda because it is the birthplace of the party. When you start serious business, you first pay homage to your roots. That is our tradition."

He invited the public to attend in large numbers and give the event the respect it deserves.

"The North West Region (NWR) is not new to me. I have been here ever since the crisis started, and I am still here. We are very determined and committed to the task assigned to us by the party."

Yong said.

He also stated that their presence will be felt in all constituencies across the 34 divisions of the region, thanks to their dedicated members.

As political parties ramp up their activities, they face a huge obstacle from armed groups that oppose the elections.

Observers suggest these armed groups may not fully understand what they are fighting for, as their actions often do not benefit the population they claim to protect.

"Preventing people from exercising their civic responsibilities only helps those they oppose stay in power. Instead of rejecting the elections, knowing they will happen anyway, why not allow the population to choose for themselves?"
asked an anonymous observer, who further that citizens rights to participate in choosing their leaders politically should not be tempered with by anyone.
