SDF Launches Presidential Campaigns In Bamenda, Vows To End CPDM Hardship

Hon Joshua Osih In Bamenda For Presidential Campaign Launch

By Raymond Dingana

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) presidential candidate, Hon. Josua Osih, stated that the people have suffered enough under the CPDM government for 42 years. He made this remark on Saturday, September 27, 2025, during the official launch of the party's campaign at the Grandstand in Bamenda, ahead of the October 12 presidential election.

At the campaign launch, Osih emphasized that the SDF has deep roots in Bamenda, and much of the freedom enjoyed in Cameroon today originated there, often at a great cost to people's lives.

Osih noted that,

"Many years have passed, and while a lot has happened, no political force has effectively addressed the root causes of our problems in Cameroon."

He noted that the crisis in the North West and South West Regions has lasted for eight years, stating,

"If we were in power, this situation wouldn't have started. That’s why Biya must be voted out."

Addressing the ongoing Anglophone crisis, Osih promised to end the violence in these regions.

"In the first 100 days of my presidency, we can achieve this. No other candidate knows these regions better than I do,"

 he said.

He explained their plan for peace, emphasizing the need for open dialogue to address the political issues at the heart of the crisis.

"We need to discuss frankly to alleviate the suffering of the people,"

 he added.

Osih proposed a referendum for a new social contract, which would include a federal constitution and a semi-parliamentary system. He believes this approach could resolve 70-80% of the issues raised by the crisis, with the remainder requiring strong leadership, leadership that he offers.

"I am confident in our solid socioeconomic program that can lift Cameroonians out of poverty. We will ensure affordable access to electricity, water, infrastructure, healthcare, and education for everyone,"

he stated.

Regarding National ID cards, Osih promised that the misery caused by the Biya regime would end if he is elected president. He vowed to issue ID cards within 24 hours and provide civil status documents free of charge.

Earlier, the North West Regional chairman of the SDF, Fongu Cletus Tanwie, urged the public to turn out and vote out the CPDM government. He described the region's dire state due to Paul Biya and the CPDM, citing poor roads, unreliable electricity, and unsafe drinking water, claiming these issues will end as the CPDM's time is running out.

Benjamin Fru Ndi, son of the late chairman Ni John Fru Ndi, recounted Osih's role in establishing the GCE Board, sharing how he walked from Bali to Bamenda to advocate for its creation.

Other speakers included former SDF member of parliament Forbi Tchinda Simon and former Mayor of Bafut Langsi Abel. Mayor Langsi appealed to armed groups, urging them to allow people to vote rather than giving the incumbent an easy path to victory.

Tchinda Simon criticized Biya's approach, stating that the government's actions are only helping him maintain power.

Before the rally at the Bamenda Grandstand, Hon. Josua Osih paid tribute at Liberty Square, laying a wreath in memory of six people who died on May 26, 1990, when the SDP party was founded.
