Chaos In Santa: Chief's Bodyguards Assault Journalist Akumbom Elvis

Akumbom Elvis Being Treated After Attack

By Raymond Dingana

Journalist Akumbom Elvis McCarthy, a paralegal, was attacked by bodyguards of a sub-chief in Meforbe Quarter, Santa Sub-Division, Mezam Division, North West Region, Cameroon. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 15th 2025, at a funeral ceremony for McCarthy's brother's father-in-law, Pa Forsuh.

During the ceremony, the chief was about to deliver a speech, and everyone was asked to stand as a sign of respect.

" I stood up up but ill health could not permit me stand for long reason why I had to regain my seat,"

 said Akumbom.

He added that

"One of the chief's guards, Fonjindam Edwin Muluh, a councilor of the Santa council, approached me and demanded i be on my feet . Despite my explanations as to why I couldn't stand, Fonjindam responded arrogantly and called for another guard, Awah Tayong, who pulled me from my seat and pushed me out of the ceremonial ground."

McCarthy said he resisted, and "Awah Tayong hit me on the head with a beer bottle, causing excessive bleeding."

Akumbom Elvis In The Hospital

We gather that the crowd took him to Santa District Hospital, then to the Military hospital in Bamenda, and finally to the Bamenda Regional Hospital, where his condition remains fragile. The hospital requires a head scan before further treatment.

Akumbom also told us that the chief and bodyguards involved have all escaped.
