The Fon of Nkwen, HRM Azefor III, has appreciated President Paul Biya and Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi of Public Works for the ongoing Urban Crossing project of which Nkwen is a beneficiary. The traditional custodian of Nkwen made the remarks shortly after visiting the site, following the arrival of bulldozers.
He said the Minister had heard the cry of the people, and added that they are preparing to bless the work especially the bridge and pray that the souls that were lost there some weeks back should rest in peace.

He also said they will invite the gods of the land to oversee the works, especially the bridge, so that the project should proceed without hitch.
In a conversation with Chifu Edward of the Vanguard Newspaper on Saturday, April 18, 2026, Fon Azefor III said:
“Roads are a key factor in development, as they facilitate the movement of goods and services.”
Given that peace is a pathway to development, Fon Azefor III urged the population of Nkwen to support the project, noting that development knows no color and that development is for everyone.
“We have sent messages of peace to our people, informing them that there can be no meaningful development without peace. After this road work is completed, many other development projects will come, and this can only happen if there is peace,”
the Fon said.
The Bamenda Urban Crossing has rather accelerated after the Pope’s visit to Bamenda, despite unreliable information that went viral saying works were going to pause after the visit.
However, work is gaining momentum, with visible signs that the Ngeng Junction bridge and that of Sonac Street will be backfilled any moment, with backfilling already taking place on the Ngeng Junction bridge.

The stretch linking Ngeng to the Veterinary Junction is also being transformed. Mile 2 Nkwen also saw bulldozers at work on Saturday, which are clear indications that the project is unfolding unperturbed.
For the Bamenda Urban Crossing to be completed and on time, the population’s unflinching support is highly needed, given that the road is for them and they are the biggest beneficiaries.
