His office will be empty until he regains his health. Her desk at school will forever miss her. Two civilians shot at Free Home Junction in Nkwen, Bamenda III Municipality, on the evening of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, near a compound where a wake-keeping ceremony was taking place has left denizens in total shock and disdain.
Ambe MacMillan, a journalist, was close to the compound, while the little girl was standing in front of her uncle’s provision store around Free Home Junction when gunmen stormed the area.
Witnesses say gunshots were heard, leaving both Ambe and the schoolgirl with bullet wounds.Ambe was rushed to the hospital after a bullet struck one of his thighs. The little girl was not as fortunate. She died from her injuries.
She had come to Bamenda to live with her uncle and continue her education. Sadly, her dreams have been cut short, leaving behind a family to mourn a child whose future was still unfolding.
Observers have asked why gun carrying individuals would opened fire where people gathered to mourn a loved one. The wake was being held for a native of Babongo whose remains were still at a mortuary in Ndop, pending burial at press time.
Ambe MacMillan is a former President of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ), Bamenda chapter. He was previously kidnapped by armed mensome years ago before regaining his freedom.
The incident comes barely hours after posting the following message on his Facebook page:
"Joy is the simplest form of gratitude. If the only prayer you said was 'thank you Lord,' that would be enough๐๐ฝ
Another day out to hustle!
Stay humble, hustle hard! ๐๐ผ."
As medical personnel continue to fight to save his life, prayers for his speedy recovery are intensifying, particularly among members of the Christian Men Fellowship (CMF) of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, Ntamulung Congregation.
Peace advocates maintain that a lasting solution to the Anglophone armed conflict through genuine dialogue is necessary to end the violence and protect civilians from further harm.
They say this will make it difficult for those carrying guns illegally to hide and strike civilians they way they have been doing for some time now.
For now, one family is mourning a schoolgirl whose life has been cut short, while another waits anxiously for their, a journalist to recover.
