Reconstruction Of NW/SW: Stake Holders Disagree With National Coordinator.

By Raymond Dingana

Some stake holders in the plan to reconstruct and development the embittered North West and South West Regions of Cameroon have disagreed on whether reconstruction and development should come before peace of the other way round. During his five -day visit to the NWR that was aimed at creating awareness and sensitizing the beneficiaries of the Plan, the National Coordinator of the PPRD, Minister Tasong Paul said, reconstruction and development can go on without a complete return to peace.

"We are aware of the disbelief of many and the bad faith of others. A question has been address to me many times to know if we can rebuild when peace has not yet fully returned. As I said in each occasion; as I will say tomorrow; I'm saying now that, the answer is a big yes. Yes because reconstruction is a path way to peace, yes because it will be done gradually from peaceful and secured areas to the more unstable areas”. Minister Tasong said.

This did not go down well with the former MP for Ngoketunjia North, Honorable Yoyo Emmanuel who said it is supposed to be the other way round.

"The minister reversed the whole thing. It should be peace, a path way reconstruction and development and not reconstruction and development before peace. Look at the Bamenda-Babadjou that was lunched more than three years ago. It is the way it is because of insecurity. How is the plan going to be carried out under an unsecured atmosphere"? Hon. Yoyo asked.

He also lamented that, in the absence of peace, reconstruction and development will be going ahead while destruction will be following from behind, meaning that, at the end of the day, no reconstruction and development would have taken place, but resources would have been wasted.

The former honorable Member of Parliament for Ngoketunjia North further prescribed reconciliation as a path way to peace. He invited the government of Cameroon and the Pro independent fighters to reconcile so that peace can rein for reconstruction to kick off smoothly.

Other reactions from the floor also underscored the need for a Marshal Plan for Reconciliation before that of Reconstruction and development. According to a stake holder, it is far more expensive carrying out development in times of war than in times of Peace.

Many especially the man in the streets of Bamenda has been saying that, what they need as top priority is for peace to return before anything else. To them, this can only be achieved if and only if; the government of Cameroon and the Pro independence fighters make good use of the dialogue table.
