Insecurity: Night Life Shrinks As beer Parlours Become Targets.

 By Raymond Dingana

Night life around the mobile  neighbourhood, a popular vicinity in Nkwen Bamenda, highly concentrated with drinking parlours have seen night life activities greatly reduced recently. Reports say; many fear going out to catch fun now and take a drink after two explosive devices went off in two different bars Tuesday;06 October at about 8pm  .One other  was discovered in another bar still in Nkwen on Thursday 08 October 2020. The explosion left customers affected with wounds and some have been hospitalized though other sources say, no one was wounded and that, it would appear the perpetrators were just firing a warning shot.According to Chia Walters, a client to one of the bars that was targeted on Tuesday, going out to have fun will have to wait for a while.

"Going out these days especially at night is risky and has to wait after an explosion occurred in my favourite drinking spot. I was there when it went off and i felt like the world was coming to an end. I will only go out again after sometime", he said.

One of the walls of the beer palour hit by explosives.

Loveline Doh, a foodstuff vendor around Nkwen Market said, she only heard a loud sound coming from the drinking spot causing people to run to different directions. She further said that, though she did not see any wounded case, it was a bad experience. She also said, they saw fliers the following day indicating that; the spots were attacked because they are selling drinks produced by Les Brasseries du Cameroun. We have not been able to independently confirm this part of the story.

Owners and workers of the targeted bars have also complained to the Drayinfos that, business has been slow ever since the attack took place. As narrated by this worker whose identity we are withholding for security reasons; they have not had the number of customer they use to have before the explosions

"We go to work these days and just sit and converse since customers are not coming the way they used to come because of fear. Some manage to come during the day but in the evening hours, the case is worse. We don't know when our customers will summon the courage to start coming back," she said.

It should be noted that lately; the ongoing crisis rocking the North West and South West Regions of the country has been taking a new twist. Just when many thought the guns were going silent, homemade explosives have emerged making life difficult for many. This has also made soldiers to be suspicious of any object they come across.  For all these to end, many are of the opinion that, genuine dialogue is needed to end the crisis.
