Bamenda Denizens' Expectations from Regional Council

By Raymond Dingana

The population of Bamenda in the North West Region of Cameroon have expressed the wish to see the bottom-top appraoch of operating by the Regional Council.

They were speaking to DrayInfos after the installation of the pioneer executive of the regional council, Saturday January 23.

They say, the region is facing a number of challenges that need the undivided attention of the council.

Genuine dialogue to pave the way for sustainable peace, road infrastructure, water and energy among others are some of the areas they pointed out.

"They should work for the people and not themselves. They should not impose on us,rather, they should asked us what are needs are and work to satisfy them."Tumi Romaric said.

According to Ngum Nestor,  a trader based in wum, the regional council should start thinking of convincing government to think about a genuine dialogue for long lasting peace to reign.

"If they fail in this area, they may just be making their work difficult because they can be no meaningful development without peace. If they are serious and are not selfish, ensuring  the return to sustainable peace would be of priority. He indicated.

The call for the regional council to work for peace to return was  reechored by Kema Fru.

"They should work for a return to lasting peace by dialoguing with the real leaders of the sepapratist movement. There are other challenges like poor road infrastructure, water and energy issues among others on the neck of the region." Fru said.

Ndibom Godlove is expecting the regional council to meet the demands of the people.

"It's for proper representation,be there for the people and not for themselves. Bring a change and tell a new story in a new way not saying an old story in an old way.To end the killings, it's just to be truthful, listine to ourselves and to the people when ever they have any revandication."He pointed out.

The population is now waiting to see if their expectations will one day be met.

It should be noted that, the pioneer executive of the NW regional coincil headed by Prof. Fru Angwafor was set in motion during  an installation ritual by North West Governor,Adolph Lele L'Afrique Tchofor Deben,Friday January 22.
