Calls have continued to come from militants of Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), and key voices from the Far North region for President Paul Biya to seek another mandate. During separate audiences with the Prime Minister, and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, the militants expressed their desire for President Biya to be their candidate in the upcoming election.
At each stop of the Prime Minister's visit to the Far North region, the consistent message was a call for President Paul Biya to present his candidacy in the forthcoming presidential election in Cameroon.
This occurred during the Prime Minister's visit to the Far North Region of Cameroon to inaugurate the Bongor-Yagoua Cross-Border Bridge. The voices from the Far North Region have joined others calling on Paul Biya to be their candidate in the October presidential election.
Cameroon Prime Ministers Inaugurate Bongor-Yagoua Cross-Border Bridge
The inauguration of the cross-border bridge is expected to enhance circulation between Cameroon and Chad, experts indicate.
The bridge comes after the River Logone has claimed countless lives from both Cameroon and Chad, as individuals risked dangerous canoe crossings to visit family or conduct business transactions, highlighting the importance of this infrastructure.
The inauguration ceremony was co-officiated by both Prime Ministers, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute and Allah Maye Halina, of Cameroon and Chad respectively.
Describing the 620-meter bridge during the heavily attended ceremony in Zebe, Yagoua, Prime Minister Halina referred to it as a "bridge of friendship and brotherhood," emphasizing its role in the ongoing cooperation between the neighboring nations, which includes the Chad-Cameroon pipeline and military collaboration against Boko Haram.
"The bridge will strengthen cultural ties between communities on both sides of the river,"
Halina noted.
In his remarks, PM Dion Ngute emphasized that the bridge marks a continuation of enhanced Cameroon-Chad relations, announcing several upcoming projects, including a railway extension from Ngaoundéré to Chad and an electricity network connecting both countries.
"The bridge project includes improvements to hospital infrastructure, youth entrepreneurship initiatives, and a joint frontier control post,"
he explained, urging the timely completion of these supplementary components.
This is the second bridge connecting the two countries, following the Ngueli Bridge in Kousseri, which has also significantly improved movement between them.
