Health: President Biya Gifts NW Population Brand New Emergency Center

The newly constructed Emergency, a gift from President Paul Biya to the population of the North West Region of Cameroon has been inaugurated at the Regional Hospital in Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon, Saturday October 11,2025.
The structure was funded by the state and built by the North West Regional Assembly,(NWRA) under the stewardship of Hon. Fru Angwafo III.
Notable attendees included former Prime Minister Philemon Yang, Minister Mbayu Felix, Minister Mbah Acha Rose, President of the Regional Assembly Prof. Fru Angwafo, Hospital Director Dr. Denis Nsame, and other regional officials.
About the Emergency Center
The Emergency Center worth over 590 million FCFA from state funds, allocated to the North West Regional Assembly as part of its 2023 projects.The modern facility has two floors.

The ground floor features a reception area, consultation room, pharmacy, imaging unit, observation unit, theater, and more.
The first floor includes a pediatric observation unit, resuscitation unit, obstetric emergency room, laboratory, blood bank, conference hall, office space, and call rooms.
Speaking after the inauguration rituals, the Director of the Regional Hospital Bamenda, Dr. Denis Nsame expressed gratitude to Prof. Fru Angwafo III, Chairman of the hospital board before going ahead to explain how the structure looks like.
“The Emergency Center has 30 beds. It is where we treat critically ill patients until they are stable enough to move to the wards. We handle medical, surgical, pediatric, and obstetric emergencies,”
Dr. Nsame explained.

He also highlighted that the center will significantly improve the hospital's capabilities.
“Previously, we had a basic emergency unit with only six beds. Over the past nine years, we have seen many trauma cases from accidents and other emergencies. This new building allows us to provide comprehensive care, including imaging and laboratory services,”
he added.
Also at the event was North West Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique who saluted the North West Regional Assembly for putting the wellbeing of the population first in all it's projects.
He emphasized that the health of the population is a priority, especially as the region recovers from over nine years of armed conflict.
Donation of Medical Supplies
The event concluded with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building, followed by the donation of medical supplies from President Paul Biya and financial aid to 48 patients in need from the North West Regional Assembly.

Prof. Fru Angwafo III also used the event to declare loyalty to the Head of State, President Paul Biya.
In an interview after the ceremony, Philemon Yang said
“The Emergency Center is a fantastic addition for the North West region. It enhances the Regional Hospital, making it comparable to the Yaounde Central Hospital. This is a major benefit for the entire region."
The structure is ready, but it still needs to be equipped to function fully. The medical supplies and furniture for the hospital have already been sent to the higher authorities, and they have assured us that the center will be well furnished in the coming days.
