Sen. Mochiggle Shares Own Side Of Story,Insists Loyalty To SDF Remains Unshaken After Party Criticism

Senator MOCHIGGLE Vanigansen Of The Social Democratic Front (SDF)

By Raymond Dingana

Senator Mochiggle Vanigansen has responded to a press release from the Secretary General (SG) of the Social Democratic Front (SDF),Njong Fonyuy Donatus which distanced the party from his recent activities. This follows his appearance alongside Minister Atanga Nji Paul at an event in Bamenda, which took place at the esplanade of the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Mezam, Friday October 3,2025.

Mochiggle asserted that his loyalty to the SDF and its late chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, remains unshaken. He dismissed claims that he had distanced himself from the party, instead accusing the SG of overstepping his authority and risking sanctions.

How It All Started

During what supporters of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) claimed was a humanitarian aid distribution, observers noted it was clearly a political event. Atanga Nji Paul invited Senator Mochiggle to the stage, stating,

“The CPDM gave Biya all senatorial seats from the North West Region. Since Biya knows how to distributes, he signed a decree appointing a senator from the opposition SDF.”

At the time, the senator was seated in the grandstand. Observers described him as confused and hesitant, as if caught in a difficult situation when Atanga Nji Paul called him to the stage so the population could see him. Even when he joined the minister on stage, his body language conveyed shock and disappointment.

SDF Criticizes Senator Mochiggle

Before the situation could settle, SG of the SDF party , Njong Fonyuy Donatus signed a press release condemning Mochiggle’s presence at the CPDM event. The press release stated:

“The entire SDF party is embarrassed by the anti-party activity orchestrated by Senator Mochiggle Vanigansen on October 3, 2025, by participating with Minister Atanga Nji Paul in what appears to be a CPDM campaign meeting."

The statement emphasized that Mochiggle did not have authorization to attend the CPDM meeting. It also reminded him that he was part of the SDF campaign team expected to support their candidate, Hon. Joshua Osih, in the Centre Region.

Senator Mochiggle Reacts

In a phone interview with  EAGLE EYE Africa Infor, Senator Mochiggle defended his actions, stating that attending the event was part of his duty as a state official.

“I am a senator and represent all Cameroonians, not just the SDF. When invited to activities concerning the population, I must attend,”

 he said.

He explained to EAGLE EYE Africa that that he was officially invited by the Governor of the North West Region, Adolph Lele Lafrique to a meeting chaired by the Minister of Territorial Administration.

Mochiggle admitted he was unaware of the full agenda, including the distribution of aid to internally displaced persons.

“I was caught off guard when Minister Atanga Nji called me up unexpectedly,”

 he said.

“I was embarrassed. I hesitated, but the SDO urged me not to create a scene, so I complied. In reality, the minister ambushed me.”

 Senator Criticizes SDF Secretary General

Mochiggle criticized the SDF Secretary General’s statement as hasty and vindictive, arguing he should have been consulted before the press release was signed.

“I have sacrificed a lot for the SDF since joining in 1990, leaving a promising public service career and positions within the CNU and CPDM. My loyalty has never wavered. To label my presence at a public event as anti-party activity is unjust and amounts to witch-hunting,”

 he insisted.

As the controversy from the Bamenda event continues to stir public opinion, many are watching to see what will happen next with Senator Mochiggle. Political observers have warned the party to be cautious about their decisions, as they could further harm the SDF.

From the video circulating, even an infant can see that the senator was ambushed. As a fact, that is exactly how Atanga Nji and the CPDM work. The senator himself was very foolish to have convinced himself that a gathering cheered by Atanga nji at this crucial moment was anything short of CPDM campaign

For the SG to have issued a press release without proper investigation, shows he has a grudge against the senator. The SG should be sanctioned. He doesn't have the sdf interest at heart but his.
