Once a peaceful and vibrant area known for hosting the University of Bamenda, Tubah Sub Division in Cameroon’s North West Region is now facing unprecedented insecurity.
On Friday, November 14th, while the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon,His Grace, José Avelino Bettencourt, was in Bamenda to rededicate the Bamenda Metropolitan Cathedral, armed men attacked a mosque in Sabga, a community in Tubah.
They opened fire randomly, resulting in the deaths of three worshipers, with nine others receiving treatment in Bamenda. The community condemned this act, comparing it to drinking poison and expecting one’s enemies to suffer.
"You can't be killing your own and expect your enemy to feel the pain,"
said Yaya Buba, a Muslim faithful in Bamenda.
More Attacks on Tubah: Civilians Pay the Price
Before the dust could settle from the Sabga incident, reports of another attack emerged from Four Corners Bambui still in Tubah. Gunmen fired shots, killing one person, a dealer in caskets by name Kingsley AKA Eke, a native of Bali, and abducting a bar owner on Friday November 13.
According to witnesses, the assailants stopped a vehicle and took its occupants, leaving the entire community shocked.

| Victims Of Sabga Mosque Shooting |
On Saturday 8th November, suspected separatist fighters killed four gendarmes near a place called Door Market, above Bambili towards Sabga. In just six days, at least seven Cameroonians have lost their lives to violence.
Despite recent escalations, local authorities are working to restore security, setting up checkpoints in various areas. However, some locals complain that some uniformed officers seem more focused on personal gain than on community safety.
Despite these challenges, the presence of security forces has helped to maintain some peace in the sub division.
The rise in violence is linked to the ongoing Anglophone crisis which is in its 9th year, which continues to devastate lives and property. Advocates for dialogue are urging for genuine discussions to resolve the conflict, hoping to bring relief to the affected population. They are calling on those against dialogue to join them in their efforts to promote peace, believing that only sincere conversations can break the current deadlock.
