People in Mfe, a village in the Nwa Sub Division of the North West Region of Cameroon, are feeling shocked and sad after a young man allegedly killed two elderly women. The suspect, known as Yongmeh, is said to have committed the crime a few days ago when the women caught him stealing chickens and raised an alarm.
Yongmeh confronted them, and after a heated argument, he hit one woman with a stick and attacked the other with a machete. The first victim died immediately, while the second was taken to a health facility but later died from her injuries.
After realizing the seriousness of his actions, the suspect tried to escape but was caught by villagers. They were about to beat him to death when others said it was better to call the police. The suspect was then detained, where he is helping security forces with their investigation.
It's worth noting that one of the victims had buried her son, Ngachu Titus, just two months ago, only to join him in death shortly after.
Villagers Blame Drugs for the Suspect's Actions
Many villagers are questioning how a young man could kill two grandmothers and whether he was in his right mind. Reports suggest that Yongmeh, described as troublesome, may have been under the influence of drugs, though this has yet to be confirmed by experts.
As he sits in jail, the bodies of the two women are being kept at the mortuary while burial arrangements are made, and calls for justice continue to grow.
