Youth Day Celebrations: Tubah D.O Encourages Youth To Be Responsible, Contribute To National Growth

By Raymond Dingana

In Tubah Sub Division, as in other parts of the North West Region and Cameroon, young people gathered at the University of Bamenda to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Youth Day.

The event was themed "Youths At The Heart Of Great Hope, For A United, Stable And Prosperous Cameroon," and youth from various villages came together to make the occasion special.

Reinforcing President Paul Biya's call for young people to engage in responsible activities for the country's growth, Divisional Officer (D.O) Massango Metuge Narcisse urged the youth to avoid bad behavior.

"We encourage the youth to be responsible, believe in themselves, and practice good morals and discipline to spare their families from the pain that comes with irresponsible living,"

 said Massango.

Hon. Gejung Awonti, Commissioner for Economy, and other members, including Hon. Mairama Amadu, the youngest member of the North West Regional Assembly (NWRA), attended the event.

Amid the ongoing Anglophone crisis, which has been worsened by young people's actions, Hon. Gejung stated that,

"Young people should focus on what matters for the future. The nation is investing in the youth. They should not get distracted by activities that tear down rather than build up. Let's trust the system and work for the country's betterment."

The day's activities included a football match, cultural performances, and a march past. Security was strong to prevent any disruptions.

Before Massango was appointed D.O of Tubah, events like Youth Day on February 11 and Cameroon's Unitary State Day on May 20 were quiet due to the Anglophone Crisis. However, since his arrival, these celebrations have continued, giving the community a chance to engage with their significance.
