Residents of Bamenda I Municipality have taken a significant step to improve their living conditions by approving three community development projects. These initiatives, in collaboration with Women In Action Against Gender Based Violence (WAG) Cameroon, and the Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association (MBOSCUDA), aim to address urgent local needs.
The projects were confirmed on March 11, 2026, during a town hall meeting at the municipal conference hall. Community members from Ntaafi, Bangshie, and Ntenefor, including representatives from various groups such as Muslims, youths, and people with disabilities, carefully reviewed the proposed projects before selecting the top priorities.
After thorough discussions, the community approved the rehabilitation of water catchments in Bangshie and Ntaafi, and the construction of drainage gutters and culverts in Ntenefor. These projects have a total budget of 15,000 euros (around 9.8 million FCFA) and are funded by the European Union and the German Federal Foreign Office, with oversight from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Community members knowing fully well that water is life, they are bent on ensuring portable water is made available at all times. Choosing the rehabilitation of water catchment areas with supports from (WAG) Cameroon and MBOSCUDA.

| Discussions Ongoing At The Town Hall Meeting |
Ngoran Christabel, the project field officer, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond essential infrastructure. It is also focused on strengthening community unity in a region affected by years of crisis. She noted,
"This town hall meeting is aimed at promoting peace and social cohesion, as Bamenda I has been significantly impacted by the crisis, leading to social tensions among internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities."
For residents of Ntenefor, the drainage project is especially vital. Atanga Emmanuella, a member of the project validation committee, highlighted the urgent need, saying,
"Last year, flooding damaged many houses in Achichem II quarter. Building gutters and culverts will greatly help us."
In Bangshie, access to water is a pressing issue, particularly during the dry season. Zacheus Fundor, the Quarter Head, remarked that expanding water catchments will provide much-needed relief. He stated,
"We face water shortages in the dry season when sources dry up, so expanding our catchment will ensure water availability throughout the year."
The First Deputy Mayor of Bamenda I Council, Ndumu Anna, encouraged the community to support the organizations executing these projects, stressing that cooperation is essential for their success. She urged,
"I appeal to the community to welcome and collaborate with anyone coming from the council for the public's benefit."
Once completed by 2028, these projects are expected to improve access to clean water, reduce flooding in vulnerable neighborhoods, and foster unity among communities in Bamenda I Municipality.
