NtaCCUL's President, Bar Akumah Bih Miranda

By Anne-Valien Berinyuy

On March 1st, a day in the month celebrating women, Akuma Miranda made history by regaining her position as president of the Ntarinkon Cooperative Credit Union Limited (NtaCCUL) for the next three years.

After serving diligently on the Board of Directors, the members wanted her to take on an even greater leadership role as President.

In her third year on the board, she was elected President in 2025. She could continue on the board if her mandate as a board member is renewed. This renewal would also give her the chance to seek another term as president if NtaCCUL members chose to support her again, which they did in a big way.

During the NtaCCUL's 39th Annual General Assembly Meeting held at Bamenda Municipal Stadium on March 1, 2026, members showed their strong support for Bar. Akuma Bih Miranda. They wanted her to remain in her role for a longer period.

After renewing her mandate as a board member, Bih won the presidency with 1,955 votes, while Fru Doris received 1,199 votes and automatically became her vice president.

Akumah Bih Miranda Promises More Empowerment For Women, Girls

After earning the trust of NtaCCUL members, President Miranda is determined to prove herself. She understands that women are often overlooked and wants to change that perspective.

She promised to promote women's empowerment during her presidency at NtaCCUL.

"As a woman, I promise every woman that with the cooperative spirit, we will focus on empowering the middle class, especially the majority of women among them, such as traders and farmers. We have projects to provide loans to women who want to start small businesses,"

Akumah stated.

"We also aim to educate women about their rights regarding credit union membership and to empower young girls."

At a time when activities for Women’s Day celebrations are gaining momentum, Bar. Akumah Bih Miranda and Fru Doris demonstrate that women in leadership roles are a reality. Women are no longer waiting for men to make decisions; they are taking charge of their own futures.
