Gunmen Burn Road-Construction Equipment in Nkwen, While Kidnapped Worker Remains in Captivity

Burn Construction Machine In Mile 4 Nkwen, Bamenda III Municipality

By Raymond Dingana

If there is a municipal council in Bamenda Central that has paid close attention to road tarring, it is the Bamenda III Council. Many roads have been tarred in Nkwen, Bamenda III, and work is still ongoing on some other roads. In Bamenda III, road tarring includes double surface dressing.

But while Bamenda III continues road projects, some people in the area say there are anti-development agents trying to thwart the council’s efforts.

On the night of Sunday, May 3, to Monday, May 4, gunmen burned a compactor used for the municipality’s road works. Reports from the area say gunshots where heard just before the machine set ablaze. The population came out as one man to quench the fire.

This happened while a road construction worker who was kidnapped on Saturday, April 25, 2026 is still in captivity. Some reports say that two workers were kidnapped.

Bamenda III Council Roads Understanding Rehabilitation

The people behind these attacks, residents say, may be trying to sabotage the council’s projects. Others say they are simply anti-development agents determined to prevent the municipality from getting good roads.

As of now, the council has not made an official statement. Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Nkwen remains tense, and many residents are unhappy and frustrated with those they believe are responsible for the latest attack.
