Behind the uniforms, books and school bags are stories of children who have lost fathers and mothers who once worked tirelessly to inform society, tell difficult stories and give a voice to the voiceless.    Handing Over Of Trophy And Celebrations By Raymond Dingana After a 10-year break caused by the Anglophone armed conflict, the Ngwakongoh Football Unity Cup has returned to Bafut, with Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence using the occasion to praise the people of Nsoh for helping to restore relative peace in the community. The 13th edition of the competition ended on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Catholic School Field in Nsoh, bringing together youths and residents from different parts of Bafut. Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Mayor of Bafut Council said the decision to relaunch the competition in Nsoh was a recognition of the community's efforts to promote peace. “I want to thank the youths for accepting me after 10 years. This final today shows that peace in Bafut is quite significant.   Elements Of Army Rescue With The Baby's Body   By Raymond Dingana A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a newborn baby whose body was discovered in a pit toilet in Cisia, Nkwen, Bamenda III Municipality. The incident came to light after neighbours reportedly noticed blood stains around the woman's home. They became suspicious because the woman, who had recently been pregnant, was no longer showing signs of pregnancy. Neighbours reportedly confronted her, but she denied knowing anything about the baby's whereabouts. The matter was later reported to the police, leading to her arrest.During questioning, the woman allegedly revealed what had happened to the baby. The Army Rescue Unit, led by Commander Taku Paul, was called in to assist. Members of the unit reportedly retrieved the baby's body from the pit toilet. By Raymond Dingana The long-awaited Bamenda II Waste-to-Energy Project is moving closer to implementation, with feasibility studies expected to begin in the coming weeks. The project, which seeks to turn waste into energy while creating jobs and improving waste management, is being developed by the Bamenda II Council in partnership with Global Ventures of North America (GVNA). GVNA Africa Regional Director and Country Director for Cameroon Operations, Emmanuel Ntoko, was in Bamenda on Saturday, August 8, 2026, for a meeting to launch the feasibility study phase. The meeting brought together Bamenda II Mayor Peter Chenwi, Mezam Senior Divisional Officer Simone Emile Mooh, traditional rulers, councillors and other partners. Many say young people who drive good cars or dress well are often stopped, their phones searched, and, in some cases, forced to pay large sums of money. Despite repeated complaints, many residents believe those responsible are rarely held accountable, thereby giving them room to continue the practice. A fresh case has sparked public outrage after a university student allegedly paid FCFA 200,000 to gendarmes before regaining his freedom. The incident reportedly happened on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Apostolic Junction area in Bamenda. According to information gathered, the student was travelling in a taxi on his way to board a bus to Limbe when he was stopped by gendarmes.
